Lockdown Days

Following a lovely trip up to Yorkshire Sculpture Park in March, only days before the outbreak became official, we were all set up to announce the launch of our new work there, which was supposed to take place in May.

Now we – like everyone else we know – are on hold till its safe to go back out. In the meantime – we’ve been invited by Absolutely Cultured to take part in Keeping happy, healthy and creative at home (Thursday 30 April, 6-8pm) – an online session to discuss how, as artists and creatives, we’re tackling creativity during isolation, and to explore how we can better support one another to overcome the barriers each of us may be facing. Do join us by registering here its free and informal.

We’re also working on a playful provocation for days of social isolation – watch this space for updates…

We’re taking part in Sound Walk September – will you?

We are taking part in Sound Walk Sunday by the Museum of Walking, which started on Sunday 1 September 2019 with events taking place that day and through September. We have three walks listed Play Cambridge Now or Never, Play Southend Now or Never, Play Peterborough Now or Never (see links below) and there’s also Play Then Now or Never – which is for those who are in Finsbury Park in London – use the download link and get walking and playing!

You can find out more about Sound Walk Sunday 2019 and dip into the directory of sound walks and walking pieces through the Museum of Walking website.

BETA TESTING AHEAD OF FREE FUTURE FAIR! ( & ALIVE)

Final round of Beta testing couldn’t have gone better (after some technical issues we won’t bore you with) – App is looking good – full of mischievous instructions for playful interaction that also reference Finsbury Park’s rich political heritage – a wonderful place to make work for (see images to get an idea).

All this is in preparation for our launch at FREE FAIR festival – 10th August (1000-1600) at Finsbury Park . Billed as ‘family-friendly ‘albion’ style fair’ that is a co-production between Furtherfield and 2NQ for Finsbury Park’s 150th anniversary – it promises to be fun and inspiring. Join us to launch PLAY ANYWHERE NOW OR NEVER which is part of Furthefield’s 3-year Citizen Sci-Fi programme  –  we can’t wait….

We’ll be working behind the scenes…

Spent the day walking around Finsbury Park geotagging (or in other words deciding which prompts go where). Bumped into a lot of walls and fences which is going to make the process even more challenging than normal but also spotted a tree of hope and other signs of daily life in the park – see some of the images we took below. The App will be ready to launch at the Free Fair and Alive festival 10th August- Save the Date. Till then we’ll be working behind the scenes…IMG_6301

We found a line to follow and much more

IMG_6052

We had an inspiring day at Furtherfield Commons in Finsbury Park – thanks to everyone who braved the cold to walk, play and talk past, present and future. We learnt about a huge reservoir hidden under a grassy mound and learned more about the path of the New river (opened in 1613!). We discussed and dreamt aloud about potential future additions to the park such as fountains, attractions for birds, labels for trees, a huge lego factory and even a giant trampoline!

We asked how one could welcome creatures from a parallel universe and agreed a cup of tea might be a good start (it was cold so no wonder we all yearned for something warm). We talked  about fences, boundaries and rules as we meandered guided by the trusted ‘directions’ die. Luckily we had a seven year old to guide us through the numerous play areas, which are otherwise out of bounds for adults – even if they are playful.

Our next walkshop is on Saturday the 18th (1500-1700)- join us for more exploratory walking and playing.
